Coles customers left confused and unable to shop as major Sydney supermarket is shut down during filming of their latest spectacular ‘Down Down’ campaign

Coles customers were left confused this week when the supermarket giant filmed their latest spectacular ‘Down Down’ campaign at their Willowdale store, 50 minutes outside of Sydney.

The supermarket shared a number of behind-the-scenes clips on Tik-Tok, which included curious shoppers milling around the front of the store.

‘When you turn up to your local Coles but can’t get in because their filming a commercial,’ Coles wrote over the clip.

The no expense spared ad looks to be the biggest yet for the supermarket chain.

‘Australia, we’re excited,’ a voiceover said.  ‘Here’s a proper preview of what’s to come.’

A number of actors wearing Coles uniforms were seen by the freezer section flinging open the doors.

Meanwhile an ’employee’ did backflips down an aisle, while a gymnast swinging on a trapeze was spotted in the fruit and vegetable section.

Coles shoppers seemed pleased with the latest incarnation of the beloved ad.

‘Marketing manager doing god’s work,’ one Tik-Tok user wrote.

‘Wish my Coles did cool sh*t like this,’ another added.

‘When does that come out I wanna see it,’ yet another wrote.

Just days ago, Coles announced a $1.1 billion profit for the for 2022-23.

This was a best overall profit result since 2019, before the pandemic and shortly after Coles demerged from Bunnings and Officeworks owner Wesfarmers five years ago.

Leah Weckert, the Coles Group’s new chief executive, said high inflation would in fact help the supermarket giant as more people chose to eat at home instead of dine out.

‘Eating out, takeaway and coffees from the cafe are increasingly being seen as treats for a special occasion,’ she told analysts on Tuesday.
