The new flavour is the 12th hot cross bun combination currently on sale at the supermarket.

It comes after the store’s last controversial launch – a Vegemite and cheese option.

The store has not yet officially launched the product, but one shopper shared it to the Grocery Geek Facebook page.

‘What the…? This is not a joke… ok people, we really don’t know how to feel about this latest Hot Cross Bun creation,’ they said.

Customers had strong reactions to the news and some foodies were very unimpressed.

‘We need to leave this world behind,’ one woman said.

‘All the flavours they could do and they choose that monstrosity?’ another asked.

‘Someone owes me a new phone because I just threw up all over it,’ another wrote.

However, other shoppers loved the idea.

‘Oh come on people- like you’ve never had a cheesy bun! it’s just a savoury bun like cheese and bacon buns. I’d try it for sure! another agreed.

Several people think they would be great to use as sandwich bread for cheese toasties or a BLT.
