A supermarket spokesman told the Sydney Morning Herald that the new logo was part of its plan to expand in China.

‘Coles has been exporting Australian food for 20 years, selling Australian grown meat, wine and other products across the Asian market,’ he said.

‘As part of our smarter selling strategy, we aim to grow this significantly over the next five years, with an initial focus on meat exports.’

Coles does not plan to open physical stores in China but wants to ramp up its exports to Beijing.

The supermarket plans to open an office in Shanghai early next year.
