A Colorado man is charged with first-degree murder in the strangulation death of his wife after prosecutors say the struggle was recorded on a surveillance camera’s audio.

Scott Beaumont Jones, 48, was initially arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder of Deborah De Pinto, 44, according to the Boulder Daily Camera.

On Monday, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty filed to increased the charge.

‘After a review of the evidence in the case, the district attorney filed a motion to direct-file a charge of murder in the first degree in the Boulder District Court,’ prosecutors said in a news release.

De Pinto had two children, according to a post she was tagged in on Facebook.

Prosecutors say surveillance camera footage from a mobile home park showed Jones and De Pinto entering the park’s office while arguing, and gesturing angrily.

While the people were out of view of the camera, the audio recorded a woman screaming and the sounds of a physical struggle.

A man’s voice could then be heard saying, ‘It’s over.’

An arrest affidavit released on Friday said De Pinto’s body was found, unresponsive, in the office of the Ponderosa Mobile Home Park on June 18.

She was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators say Jones told them he didn’t mean to do it and that De Pinto died of asphyxiation.

District Judge Ingrid Bakke set a hearing date for October 3 to determine whether there’s enough evidence to bring Jones to trial on the charge.

Jones made an initial court appearance on Monday, where he did not enter a plea and remains in custody without bond.

If convicted, Jones faces a mandatory life sentence in prison without parole and the possibility of being sentenced to death, if Dougherty should choose to pursue it.
