  • Nicole McGraw, 28, has been charged with driving under the influence by police

  • Tiyessha Alexander, the filmer, said she thought the car might hit someone else

A female driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after her car violently swerved across a highway before hitting a guardrail and rolling over into a ditch.

The horrific incident was caught on dashcam on the I-25 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 11am on Monday.

The woman, identified by police as Nicole McGraw, 28, faces charges of driving under the influence and careless driving, police spokesman Jim Sokolik told The Gazette.

At the start of the video, a blue SUV can be seen veering left across the road near Rockrimmon Boulevard, while a man’s voice says, ‘Yo, this b**ch is flying’.

The car then smashes into a barrier and, in a cloud of dust, heads towards a rail on the opposite side of the road, while the dashcam witness screams, ‘Oh, she might go over the edge!’

Incredibly, the car stays on the road as she tries to merge with oncoming traffic, at which the voice cries, ‘She’s still going!’

Just as it seems a major pile-up is about to happen, the driver veers again to the right – and this time the vehicle does roll over the rail before landing roof-down in the ravine.

Police said the woman suffered only slight injuries, and nobody else was hurt in the incident.

Ms Alexander said: 'When she hit the rail on the right side and went toward the highway, that's when I really got scared'

Tiyessha Alexander, who was in the car which filmed the crash – along with two family members and a friend – said it could have been much worse if the driver had hit other vehicles.

‘When she hit the rail on the right side and went toward the highway, that’s when I really got scared.

‘I really thought that she was going to end up hitting somebody else and that it was going to be horrible,’ Alexander told KRDO news.

The crash caused delays along the interstate as police responded to the scene.

In 2014, McGraw pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, El Paso County court records show.

She was released on Monday in connection with the current case.
