Comedian Harry Enfield sells London home for £11million after split from wife Lucy

He created his memorable character Loadsamoney to satirise consumerism under Margaret Thatcher’s government in the 1980s, but Harry Enfield has now enjoyed a windfall to which the shamelessly avaricious plasterer, who boasted ‘look at my wad’, could only aspire.

I can disclose that the comedian, 63, has sold his marital home for £10.79million.

He and his estranged wife, Lucy, bought the five-story house in Notting Hill, west London, for £6m in 2008, so they made a profit of almost £5m.

In keeping with demographic changes to the once down-at-heel corner of the capital, they have sold it to a partner in an asset management group.

The proceeds of the house sale are likely to be used to settle Enfield’s divorce. I disclosed in 2020 that he had separated from Lucy, a children’s clothes designer, after 23 years of marriage.

‘It’s very sad, but Harry is living elsewhere,’ a friend of the couple told me at the time. ‘He’s being comforted by a female friend. Lucy’s heartbroken.’

Lucy, 61, who once hailed his ‘huge sex appeal’, has three children with the comedian, who created and performed such grotesques as Kevin the Teenager and The Slobs.

She and Enfield are close friends of Lord (David) Cameron and his wife, Samantha. In their final appearance in Downing Street, the Camerons’ daughters wore dresses made by the firm she co-founded, Wild & Gorgeous.

Before Enfield met privately educated Lucy at a dinner party, he had a three-year relationship with TV and film producer Alison Allen, former wife of actor and comedian Keith Allen.

During that time he and Alison shared a flat in Primrose Hill, North London, and he played a part in bringing up the three Allen children, Sarah, Game Of Thrones star Alfie, and Lily, the now-famous pop singer. He called them his ‘common-law stepchildren’.

Enfield, who played Prince Charles in hilarious Channel 4 sitcom The Windsors, was at the height of his fame when he met Lucy, but she was oblivious.

‘I didn’t have much of a take on who he was,’ she later said. ‘When we were introduced it was, “Oh, this is Harry; he’s a comedian.”‘

They met for decorous walks on Hampstead Heath. ‘I fancied him from the outset and gradually I realised what a fantastically good and kind man he was,’ she said.

‘Harry and I have a lovely relationship. He is very generous with his words; very demonstrably loving. He tells me I’m beautiful I never believe him, of course and he’s very quick to say he loves me.’
