Common, Danny Glover, and Bernie Sanders are leading a virtual line-up of stars, civil rights leaders, and activists celebrating Harry Belafonte’s upcoming 94th birthday.

The Gathering for Harry will take place Sunday, February 28, and will include performances and appearances from Stacey Abrams, Aloe Blacc, Tamika D. Mallory, Rev. Al Sharpton, Jackie Cruz, Aja Monet, Mysonne The General, Diane Nash and others.

The surprise party will benefit the The Gathering for Justice, an organization founded by Belafonte which seeks to end child incarceration and remove racial inequities within the justice system.

Belafonte created the nonprofit in 2005, after learning about a five-year-old Black girl who was arrested in her classroom for being ‘unruly.’  

The upcoming bash will honor Belafonte using video tributes, performances, and testimonials from racial justice leaders, civil rights leaders, artists, athletes, and more. 

A longtime civil rights activist, Belafonte has marched with the likes of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

He was also an honorary co-chair of the Women’s March on in Washington. 

Belafonte also has an illustrious career in showbiz.

Belafonte is famous for singing The Banana Boat Song, featuring the catchy ‘Day-O’ lyric.

Belafonte became a recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2014.

The multi-faceted celebrity has also won an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award.

Belafonte has been married to photographer Pamela Frank since 2008.
