Hundreds of ATMs and eftpos services have crashed across Australia due to a massive outage at Telstra.

Numerous social media users began reporting outages around the country just after 3pm, which Commonwealth Bank and ANZ confirmed.

ANZ bank also has the same issues with its ATMs, eftpos, and other services across Australia and was working to fix them.

‘There appears to be a wide-spread EFTPOS outage at the moment, while this is not isolated to ANZ, please be assured that we are working to have this resolved on our end ASAP,’ it told customers.

A fault with Telstra was the root cause of the issue, affecting numerous businesses with many thousands of customers.

‘We’re currently looking into an issue affecting services including EFTPOS and access to ATMs,’ the telco said.

‘We’re sorry if this impacts you. We’ll keep you updated as we know more.’

Other organisations such as Xbox and reportedly NSW Ambulance are also having problems with their Telstra services.

CBA pleaded with customers not to ring its overloaded call centre saying there was ‘no need’ to contact it to report issues.

‘The cause of the problem is under urgent investigation. We are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority,’ it said.

Canberra marketing agency Baha said its staff were in the awkward position of being unable to pay their bill after a lunch.

‘How can we rely on your services when all our cards are declined? Who is paying for the bill? Been here for 30 mins and we cannot leave the restaurant!’ it tweeted.

Another customer vented: ‘I can’t even take any money out I really need to get shopping and pay my bills.’

‘Both of our eftpos machines have just gone down and your phone line goes straight to a message. Error code TCP/IP failure. Can you help?’ a business owner said.
