  • Issue left Commonwealth Bank customers unable to make Visa card transactions
  • Payments using bank’s NetBank website and CommBank app were also affected
  • Frustrated customers took to social media to complain about payment problems

Commonwealth Bank ATMs have been crippled by a technical issue along with the smartphone app and their website.

The technical issue is affecting Visa card transactions, and payments on the bank’s internet banking platforms.

‘We’re aware of an issue affecting some Visa card transactions and some payments in NetBank and CommBank app,’ the bank said in a statement on Monday morning.

‘We’re working to fix as a priority and we apologise for any inconvenience first thing on a Monday.’

Frustrated customers were told: ‘You may not be able to make payments or access all features while logged on this morning. Please try again later.’

Many took to social media to vent their anger at the banking giant, and share stories about how the glitch had ruined their Monday.

‘Not good enough CBA. You should have been aware of this hours ago and should have communicated a status update hours ago,’ said a Twitter user.

‘I missed my train trying to top up my go card, and had to go back and scrimmage through my house for loose change! 1 hour late!’ said another.

‘Imagine not being able to access your own money? This is seriously not good enough,’ said someone else.

‘Are you going to cover late payment fees incurred by companies like Telstra of payments can’t be made on time?’

Some customers complained that payments made on Friday had not gone through, while others said they were unsatisfied with the bank’s apologies.

‘Cheers I’ll let the servo attendant know that I’m paying in commonwealth bank apologies today and I’ll just eat apologies for lunch too,’ said one Twitter user.
