The soldier’s head and hat were knocked off and police reported the vandals took the head but left the hat.

Police say the vandalism occurred at the cemetery where around 2,000 soldiers are buried.

Confederate statues around the country have been targeted in the weeks following a white-nationalist rally to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Virginia.

This resulted in the death of one woman named Heather Heyer.

Police in Ohio had been monitoring the cemetery since the August 12 rally.

The vandalism of this Confederate soldier statue comes after the removal of a memorial in Ellicott City on Tuesday.

Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman said: ‘The more appropriate place for the memorial is in a museum, along with other artifacts and information on the Civil War.’

This news also comes after Baltimore pulled down its Confederate monuments under the cover of night.

In Kansas City, park officials revealed that an 83-year-old Confederate memorial is set to be moved after it was vandalized.

That came after someone painted what appeared to be a red hammer and sickle on the ‘Loyal Women of the Old South’ memorial late Friday or early Saturday.

Meanwhile in Houston a man named Andrew Schneck was arrested for allegedly trying to plant a bomb near a Confederate statue in a Texas park.
