Meghan Markle fans were put through a confusing series of unfortunate events today after NBC announced that the Duchess of Sussex would be making an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on December 7 – only for her close media pal Omid Scobie to furiously deny the news just minutes later.
The mystery surrounding Meghan’s alleged talk show visit began on Monday after NBC published a story on its website stating that the mother-of-two ‘will appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ next month.
However, moment later, Omid, 41, took to Twitter to furiously deny the report – insisting that ‘someone at NBC didn’t get the memo’ and claiming that Meghan, 41, is not scheduled to make an appearance.
‘Looks like someone at NBC didn’t get the memo!’ he wrote. ‘Despite an announcement via their various PR channels, Meghan isn’t scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show.’
NBC has sparked confusion after announcing that Meghan Markle would be appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on December 7 – only for her pal Omid Scobie to deny it
The broadcaster published a piece about the 41-year-old’s alleged appearance on its website today – however the story has since been removed
Less than one hour after NBC made the announcement, Omid, 41, tweeted a vehement denial, suggesting that the network had made an error and claiming Meghan will not be appearing
The NBC piece – which has since been deleted – initially stated that Meghan would sit down with Fallon in order to discuss her recent projects, as well as the Sussexes’ upcoming Netflix documentary, a project that has already sparked furious controversy, even before its premiere.
It is currently unclear how the scheduling error occurred – and neither NBC or the Sussexes have commented on whether Meghan pulled out of the show after the announcement, or whether the news of her alleged appearance was shared before it had been confirmed.
DailyMail.com has reached out to spokespeople for the Sussexes and NBC.
Meghan was due to appear on The Tonight Show on September 20, however she canceled her appearance after the Queen’s death on September 8
The blunder comes nearly three months after Meghan canceled a scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show in the wake of the Queen’s passing on September 8.
Meghan had been scheduled to appear on the talk show on September 20 – the same day that she and Harry, 38, were due to attend the UN General Assembly in Manhattan – however they canceled both appearances, which were set for the day after the Queen’s funeral date.
The suggestion that Meghan was due to appear on a talk show will no doubt have led to major concerns within the palace – particularly as she was reportedly going to speak about the Sussexes’ upcoming Netflix docuseries.
Netflix has yet to confirm when the documentary will air, however it has been suggested by numerous royal insiders that the show – coupled with the release of Harry’s memoir Spare in January – could well put an end to any hope of reconciliation between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family.
The Monarchy is still reeling from the allegations and bombshells made by the couple during their explosive March 2021 interview with Oprah, during which they made several very damaging claims about the royal family – including that an unnamed royal made racist comments about their son Archie’s skin tone.
Meghan’s alleged appearance on The Tonight Show was supposedly scheduled for the day after she and Harry are due to receive a human rights award at a glitzy Manhattan gala

The Duchess’s latest alleged Tonight Show appearance was slated for one day after she and Harry are due to be honored by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation at a ceremony in New York City.
According to reports, both Harry and Meghan are due to attend a glitzy Ripple of Hope Gala in Manhattan – with tickets for a spot on their table being sold for up to $1 million – where they will be presented with a human rights award by RFK’s daughter Kerry Kennedy.
News of the couple’s award has been met with furious backlash, particularly after Kerry, 63 – who is the ex-wife of disgraced New York Governor Andrew Cuomo – stated that the pair were being honored for their ‘heroic’ stance against ‘structural racism’ within the royal family.
While Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for Harry and Meghan’s docuseries, Penguin Random House has confirmed that the Duke’s upcoming memoir, Spare, will be published on January 10
Kerry told Spanish news site El Confidencial: ‘They went to the oldest institution in UK history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health.’
Their scheduled attendance at the gala means they would have been in Manhattan in order for Meghan to make her appearance on The Tonight Show the following day.
The latest NBC mix-up comes just days after the broadcaster was forced to retract a report about the circumstances of the hammer attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul.
NBC sparked furious controversy when it aired a report on the Today show on November 4 in which on-air correspondent Miguel Almaguer stated that Pelosi had told San Francisco police there was no indication he was in any danger and did not declare and emergency when he answered the door.
‘After a “knock and announce”, the front door was opened by Mr. Pelosi,’ Almaguer’s voiceover detailed in the piece.
‘The 82-year-old did not immediately declare an emergency or tried to leave his home but instead began walking several feet back into the foyer toward the assailant and away from police. It’s unclear if the 82-year-old was already injured or what his mental state was, say sources.’
However, the police’s narrative of the incident told how Pelosi was struggling with the intruder, David DePape, when they arrived at his home. Pelosi was left with a cracked skull.
Hours later, NBC News removed the video report from their website, stating it ‘did not meet NBC News reporting standards’.
Almaguer, 45, was later suspended pending an internal investigation into the matter.
