Crenshaw, who is preparing to succeed the retiring Ted Poe next month in the US House of Representatives, sat down for a humbling interview with KPRC2’s Khambrel Marshall to speak about the matter.

The 34-year-old Republican politician and former Navy SEAL officer told Marshall that Davidson’s post was ‘pretty devastating’.

The comedian said Saturday in a since-deleted Instagram note: ‘I really don’t want to be on this earth anymore. I’m doing my best to stay here for you but I actually don’t know how much longer I can last.

‘All I’ve ever tried to do was help people. Just remember I told you so <3’

Crenshaw said during the new segment with Marshall: ‘You know, you don’t want to see somebody in that kind of position, to the point where they’re actually putting out a cry for help on social media… that’s not a good place to be in.’

He added: ‘Actually, I talked to him personally yesterday and talked to him for a little bit about it.’

The two men chatted on the phone Sunday, a day after Davidson, the ex-boyfriend of pop singer Ariana Grande, posted the alarming message.

The 25-year-old New York City-born actor recently came under fire when he compared Crenshaw – who wears and eye patch after he lost his right eye in Afghanistan in 2012 when an explosive device detonated – to a ‘hit man in a porno movie.’

Davidson apologized for the comments last month during a ‘Weekend Update’ segment, where he appeared alongside Crenshaw.

‘I mean this from the bottom of my heart… it was a poor choice of words. The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world,’ Davidson said in the apology.

Crenshaw further told Marshall this week that he and Davidson are ‘not good friends,’ adding, ‘he he appreciated hearing from me. Everybody has a purpose in this world. God put you here for a reason.

‘But it’s your job to find that purpose. You should live that way, always seeking out that purpose, not expecting it to be given to you by anybody else.

‘And know that you have value, and maybe do more good for people than you realize. Especially a guy like that, you know, he makes people laugh, sometimes he makes people mad, but he makes people laugh alot.’

It was revealed Monday that SNL Executive Producer Lorne Michaels was sending Davidson to treatment.

A source close to the SNL creator said in a statement to Page Six: ‘The decision was taken to give Pete a break on Saturday night – his sketches were dropped before the early evening rehearsals.

‘Lorne has pledged to help all he can, including sending Pete to get help. Everyone on the cast is hugely protective of him and were obviously upset – particularly Colin Jost and Michael Che on “Weekend Update.”‘

It’s currently unclear where the the SNL cast member will be staying for treatment.

The gossip site reported that Davidson hasn’t made plans to take much time off – and could return to the set shortly after the New Year.
