Connie Johnson ‘broke out of hospice’ over the weekend to take part in a fundraiser for her charity Love Your Sister, despite being in the final stages of breast and liver cancer.

The brave mother-of-two, who is actor Samuel Johnson’s sister, was diagnosed with cancer four-years-ago and recently went into hospice care.

Ms Johnson attended an event for the Heart As Big As Yours art project in Canberra on Sunday and sported a pink beanie and a big smile in an Instagram post announcing her ‘break-out.’

‘About to break out of the hospice now. I’m on my way. Can’t wait to see Marie and all the villagers. See you there soon,’ she wrote.

The Heart As Big As Yours project was founded by Sydney artist Marie Ramos, who is collecting the fingerprint celebrities and supporters in ceramic imprints shaped like love hearts.

Molds of Connie and Samuel’s fingerprints were taken earlier in the year and will be at the centre of the artwork.

Ms Ramos is hoping to create 2,000 ceramic tiles, raising $100,000 for Love Your Sister.

The Canberrra event added another $5,400 toward the goal.

With 802 hearts yet to be made, two more events will be held in Maroochydore – on 26th August – and in Melbourne at a later date.

‘Quiet night chatting and colouring with an old friend, life can still have great moments and this is one of them. Peace, love and friendship at the hospice. #nowisawesome #vanquishcancer #colourcanceraway,’ she wrote with the image.

A post of colouring-in artwork was also posted with an uplifting comment: ‘loveyoursisterTea, cookies and colouring in with friends, now is awesome. #colourcanceraway #vanquishcancer.’

Mr Johnson recently posted to the Love Your Sister Facebook page to tell her followers his sister had been placed into Hospice and was dealing with ‘actively dying.’

‘Con’s needed a lot of quiet time lately to try and comprehend the total headfuckery that ‘actively dying’ brings,’ he wrote.

‘No phones, no social media – all too overwhelming right now. She just rang from the Hospice (her view pictured) and admitted that this is the most difficult thing she’s ever had to face, but in true Connie style she’s been colouring in to keep the nasty thoughts at bay!

‘She said to tell you that there’s life in the old dog yet.

‘She’s as comfortable as can be and is being cared for superbly.’

Love Your Sister social media accounts document the brave journey of Connie Johnson and shows the support of her brother Samuel Johnson since his siter was diagnosed with cancer.

Samuel Johnson rode around Australia on a unicycle and raised $1,6 million for The Garvan Research and to help raise awareness of cancer.
