Conor Benn has to be PULLED from Saturday’s Fight Camp show after testing positive for Covid-19

Conor Benn has to be PULLED from Saturday’s Fight Camp show in huge blow to Eddie Hearn after testing positive for Covid just days before his headline clash against Adrian Granados

Conor Benn has had to withdraw from his headline clash against Adrian Granados at Fight Camp 2 this Saturday night after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 24-year-old was due to face the tough, well-schooled Mexican in a huge fight at Matchroom HQ for the second instalment of Fight Camp but has now been pulled from the show.

Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed Benn will not be fighting on the card on Saturday night, with Can Xu’s world title defence against Leigh Wood now being elevated to the chief fight.

Hearn confirmed on Thursday: ‘Slightly disappointing news that Conor Benn has failed a Covid test this morning for his upcoming fight with Adrian Granados.

‘We are conducting further PCR tests but he will be off the card on Saturday night.’

He added: ‘Conor Been is in good spirits, he feels well, of course he will obey the isolation rules and reset and reschedule his fight with Adrian Granados and we will make further announcements on that soon.’

The news will be a bitter pill to swallow for Benn, who has gathered huge momentum over the last 12 months and would have been on course for another blockbuster fight later this year had he won on Saturday night.

Benn was the biggest name on the bill for week one of Fight Camp 2 and his omission will come as a blow to Hearn and Matchroom.

Britain’s Wood will now take centre stage when he looks to pull off an upset against featherweight world champion Xu.

Elsewhere on the card, Hearn confirmed that Anvi Yildirim’s showdown with Jack Cullen will be part of the main broadcast as a result of Benn’s withdrawal.
