Conor McGregor reveals talks to fight Manny Pacquiao are ‘ongoing’ as he targets boxing world title after UFC comeback against Donald Cerrone

UFC star Conor McGregor is in talks to fight Manny Pacquiao as the Irishman targets a return to the boxing ring.
McGregor is currently in the final stages of preparations for his UFC 246 showdown with Donald Cerrone in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
But the 31-year-old is already looking forward to his next fight and revealed it could involve a switch back to boxing after his fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

McGregor revealed that talks to face Pacquiao, pictured after last year’s win over Keith Thurman, are taking place as he targets a return to the boxing ring
‘The Manny Pacquiao talks have been ongoing,’ said McGregor. ‘An aspiration of mine now is to win a boxing world title.
‘I think that would be a phenomenal feather in the cap and something I look to achieve in the future. And something I will achieve.’
Mayweather beat McGregor by TKO in the 10th round of their Vegas contest in August 2017, but the Irishman won many plaudits for the way he fought against the undefeated five-division champion.
‘I would love that Floyd rematch,’ McGregor added. ‘I thought I did, for what was in front of me, very well.

Mayweather defeated McGregor by TKO in the 10th round but the Irishman believes he has what it takes to win his next fight in the boxing ring
‘I thought with some slight adjustments I would have done even better. So I feel now I could take that victory.’
Mayweather is now retired, making the chances of a rematch unlikely, but eight division champion Pacquiao, 41, is still fighting.
His last fight was a win against the American Keith Thurman in Las Vegas last July which saw him win the WBA (super) welterweight title.
