Convicted rapist and child molester is on the run after being accidentally RELEASED from a Georgia prison – despite being sentenced to three life sentences for his horrific crimes

  • Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez, 31, was accidentally released from Rogers State Prison following a processing error  
  • The convicted felon was serving three life sentences for the rape and molestation of a girl under the age of 10 
  • A full-scale manhunt is currently underway in order to locate Munoz Mendez
  • US Marshals have joined Georgia Department of Corrections’ Fugitive Unit in the search, and law enforcement is pleading with the public for any information

A convicted rapist and child molester is on the run after being accidentally released from a Georgia jail where he was serving a life sentence. 

Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez, 31, walked out of Rogers State Prison in Reidsville on Friday afternoon following a processing ‘error’. 

Munoz-Mendez had been behind bars since 2015 when he was convicted of the horrific rape and child molestation of a girl under the age of 10.  

He was sentenced to three life sentences for the horrific crimes, according to WSB-TV.  

Rogers State Prison is a ‘medium-level’ security facility with a maximum capacity of 1,391 inmates. 

Georgia Department of Corrections have not disclosed when they realized that Munoz-Mendez had been inadvertently released, however a full-scale manhunt was underway by Monday afternoon. 

Georgia Department of Corrections spokesperson Lori Benoit revealed in a news release that ‘all resources are being utilized to ensure the rapid apprehension of Munoz-Mendez’

US Marshals have joined the department’s Fugitive Unit in the frantic hunt to track down the convicted felon, but so far there are no clues as to his whereabouts. 

Police have even appealed to the public for help in finding the convicted felon, who is described as being 5ft 9in tall with brown hair and brown eyes. 

However, authorities have warned against the public approaching Munoz-Mendez if they spot him, as he may be armed and dangerous. They are instead advised to contact law enforcement on 478-992-5111.
