The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office deputy was charged with one count of felony criminal mischief and one of misdemeanor driving under the influence after the November incident, Pensacola News Journal reported.

According to reports at the time, Taylor had called in sick after claiming to have taken the tranquilizer Xanax, making him unfit to drive.

But instead of staying home, he decided to head to his former wife’s home.

His ex-wife can be seen standing in the doorway, but just after she closes the door Taylor speeds into the house.

He caused over $30,000 of damage.

When police arrived, his ex-wife – who was not injured – was inside the home and tending to him.

Taylor was then airlifted to hospital.

The former deputy no longer works for the sheriff or any other law enforcement agency.

His attorney, Kim Skievaski, said: ‘It was sad what occurred, but it was a result of some of the stress associated with that field of occupation. He deserves to be given credit for all the years he served the community.’
