Cop killer Sione Penisini ‘having a ball in prison’ says family after alleged Kempsey romp

A relative says the cop killer inmate who allegedly had an affair with a married prison guard has been ‘having a ball’ in jail.

Sione Penisini is in hot water with Corrective Services NSW after allegations of an affair with prison officer Amy Connors at a jail in Kempsey.

A family member told Daily Mail Australia they were blindsided by the sex claims.

‘Family certainly didn’t know anything about that – I guess Sione just got lucky mate,’ he said.

‘He’s having a ball mate, he’s lost this little perk but something else will come up it always does.’

Penisini murdered Senior Constable Glenn McEnallay in the early hours of March 27, 2002.

The highway patrolman gave chase after spotting Penisini’s stolen Holden Commodore after 5am in Sydney’s south.

Penisini hit a traffic island and his car was too damaged to drive, so he stepped out and shot Mr McEnallay four times in the head and chest.

He was sentenced to a maximum sentence of 34 years’ imprisonment and may be eligible for parole in eight years’ time, in March 2027.

He pleaded guilty and the Court of Criminal Appeal heard that he ‘entertains genuine remorse’, according to his father and brother.

‘I do not believe, despite his expressions of remorse, that he has much in the way of insight into his ongoing criminality,’ one of the three judges said in the panel’s ruling.

Penisini was on parole at the time of the murder.

Authorities will no doubt be keeping a tight leash on Penisini after his alleged sexual relationship with Ms Connors sparked national headlines.

Daily Mail Australia has confirmed he has been moved to the state’s most notorious prison, Goulburn Supermax, as punishment.

Corrective Services New South Wales had no comment on the comments by Penisini’s relatives.

Ms Connors has gone into hiding since the alleged affair hit the news this week.

Corrective Services intelligence officers uncovered the alleged relationship after learning of phone conversations between the pair, prison sources confirmed.

Prison insiders said Ms Connors would use her own key to let herself inside Penisini’s cell at night to have sex.

A Facebook account – purportedly ran by Ms Connors’ brother – posted these messages online

Under current laws it is not a criminal offence to have sex with a prisoner and only a breach of the code of conduct.

Corrective Services Minister David Elliott is now considering tougher measures to stop prison guards and inmates entering into inappropriate relationships.

Meanwhile, vile threats against Kempsey locals have been posted on Facebook accounts belonging to Ms Connors’ brothers.

One brother his week posted a message suggesting the family would, legally speaking, ‘f**k you (a local) up the ar*se’ if they shared photos of Ms Connors with the media.

‘Very soon hope you have plenty of money… you will have fun and have nothing left.’

Another brother purportedly messaged a local to say: ‘She’s not f***ing pregnant ya big mouth s**t’, denying rumours Ms Connors and Penisini were having a baby.
