- Police find cache of weapons while checking on the elderly Nova Scotia man
- Authorities recover 94 long guns, six handguns that weren’t properly secured
- Gun owner arrested and faces a charge of unsafe storage of a firearm
Dialing the wrong number for information got a Canadian man arrested after police came to his home to check on his well-being and found an improperly secured arsenal of firearms, authorities said.
The unidentified 73-year-old man had 100 firearms in his home when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police visited his house in Chebogue, Nova Scotia, around 11 a.m. on Monday, Corporal Jennifer Clarke told Dailymail.com.
The cache of weapons included 94 long guns and 6 handguns, said Clarke, a police spokeswoman who declined to release the gun owner’s name pending formal charges.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police seized 100 improperly-secured weapons when they responded to a 73-year-old man’s home in Chebogue, Nova Scotia, after he accidentally dialed 911 instead of 411 for information
Police arrested the elderly man, who faces a charge of ‘unsafe storage of a firearm,’ according to Corporal Jennifer Clarke, a spokeswoman for the cops
The man explained to a 911 dispatcher that he had meant to dial 411 for information, but authorities were still compelled to go out to his home.
‘We’re not sure why he made the call,’ Clarke told Dailymail.com. ‘But there are certain cues that police look for, which is why they went out to the home.’
Upon arrival, police ‘saw several weapons throughout the home,’ Clarke said.
The firearms were legally owned. However, the gun owner was still arrested and faces a charge of ‘unsafe storage of a firearm,’ Clarke said.
Police had no immediate explanation for why the weapons were stored improperly.
The man was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court in October.
