Speaking to The Sun, Kym, 41,  admitted that filming the brutal scenes left her ‘bruised the next day’.

‘People don’t seem to realise is that our job can be quite physical — but it was great fun.’ the Corrie stalwart added.

The actress also confessed to the Mirror that she had to go to a ‘dark place’ in order for the scene to come across well she really has to emerge herself in the moment.

Kym added that it helps to make light of the situations and bring comedy in so that it doesn’t become too intense.

‘We’ve pushed the boundaries, we’ve pushed the edge of it so we’ll have to see what the reaction is’.

Fans thought they had seen the last of the biggest Corrie baddie in the shows history after he was pushed off a harbour’s edge, with Eileen looking over as Phelan plunged the murky depths.

But it wasn’t to be, as Phelan rose from the ashes once again, having survived the fall and made it to a B&B.

Connor continued: ‘We’ve taken the audience on a couple of false starts. They deserve the pay-off and I think it’s a decent one.’
