In February the actress revealed she had lost three-stone after overhauling her diet and adopting a new health and fitness regime, dropping dropped to a size 12-14 from a size 16.

Discussing her weight loss, a source told Woman magazine: ‘Sue was always a self-confessed foodie, who admitted that over-indulgence was her Achilles Heel. Now everything’s changed.

‘Sue’s in her mid 50s so it was a no brainer that cutting down on certain things was what she had to do. She’s in this for the long game and wants to live a long, happy and healthy life,’ they said, as they added she did it for her partner and son Elliot.

It’s been a tough few months for the actress though who revealed in September that she recently came down with the life-threatening condition sepsis.

Speaking on This Morning, Sue told how she began to show troubling symptoms while on the Corrie set.

She told hosts Eamon Holmes and Ruth Langsford: ‘I didn’t really take it seriously. I suffer with IBS and I thought I was having a flare up.’

Sue explained she went home from Coronation Street early as she had not been feeling well but her symptoms only worsened the next day.

She said: ‘And then I came back in the next morning at 7:30am and was shooting all day. It was the hottest day of the year and I was on set with a hot water bottle, shaking.

‘And Melanie Hill (fellow Corrie actor who plays Cathy Matthews) said “Sue, look at your feet!”

‘And my feet were just blue and purple and I had goosebumps on my arms… I went home at lunchtime, I got into bed. I had socks on, leggings on and thinking ‘Not only have I got really bad IBS, but I’ve caught the flu now.’

However, it was actually a severe kidney infection which had caused the sepsis and Sue revealed how her family had to intervene.

Sue said: ‘My husband, who also works on Corrie was on a night shift. He rang me and said he couldn’t hear what I was saying because my teeth were chattering so much.

‘He rang our daughter in law who’s a paramedic and she said, get her to hospital. I didn’t know I had sepsis until the next day in the ward. I was immediately on fluids and antibiotics.’

Sue never suspected she had sepsis and said the experience served as a wake-up call. She said: ‘The biggest lesson for me is that we stride on through life and we put up with things. You’re so aware of upsetting filming for everybody. All I wanted to do was sleep. If I had gone to sleep, what would have happened?’
