Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews worries fans she’s been axed as she says she’s been given ‘a million years off’ from the soap

Coronation Street’s Sally Ann Matthews left fans she had been sacked on Instagram on Thursday when she admitted she had been given ‘a million years off’.

Sally, 53, who made her first appearance on the show in 1986, took to Instagram on Thursday night to tell fans they should get used to not seeing her around.

The actress plays Jenny Connor (née Bradley): former landlady of The Rovers, and adopted daughter of Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox).

Her first stint on the cobbles last five years. She returned for a month in 1993, and four months in 2015, before returning permanently in 2016.

Sally has been involved in huge storylines such as a romance with married man Robert Weston when she was underage, and abducting Kevin Webster’s son Jack.

Explaining why she was on holiday, Sally Ann took to Instagram Live and said: ‘I chose to get on an aeroplane because I’m particularly quiet at work. 

‘I’ve got, like, a million years off.’

Sally Ann continued: ‘So, I chose to go on an aeroplane and I chose to remember happier times.’

She said she has been to Cyprus twice in five weeks and is planning to go away again this Saturday.

The actress went on: And then I’m going to go back to Cyprus, and do nowt, and at some point I might get a job and someone might employ me, potentially.

According to The Sun, she went on to read fan queries, she said: ‘”Have you left the street?” Hmm. Hang on, next question.

In response to the words from the former Emmerdale star, fans commented: ‘I’m confused’;

‘Are you not on Corrie any more. I feel like I’ve missed something or my memory blew up?????’;

‘You’re not on Corrie anymore?’, adding a shocked face emoji.

Metro.co.uk reported that Sally Ann later said: ‘”We haven’t seen much of Jenny for a while”.

‘No, you’re not going to be seeing Jenny for quite a long while, so that’s that!’

A source said: [Sally Ann] is not on “a break”. She was filming last week, she may be off for a few weeks at the moment, but she is back filming early next month.
