The outback town of Walgett will be plunged into lockdown from 7pm on Wednesday night after a local man tested positive to coronavirus.

The remote community in the state’s northwest will be locked down with strict stay-at-home orders to likely last seven days.

A local man who recently spent time in Dubbo and Bathurst during his infectious period was tested for Covid-19 on Saturday, August 7.

Western NSW Local Health District have said the man returned a positive test on Wednesday, triggering the week-long lockdown.

The man is believed to have been infectious since Thursday, August 5 with contact tracers currently scrambling to track his movements.

Anyone who experiences Covid-19 symptoms in the areas of Dubbo, Bathurst or the town of Walgett has been urged to come forward for testing.
