South Sydney coach Wayne Bennett sensationally calls for the NRL season to be suspended INDEFINITELY because it ‘will only be a matter of time’ before a player gets coronavirus

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs coach said the NRL season should be suspended
  • He said it is only a matter of time before a player, fan or coach gets COVID-19
  • Bennett said players, coaches and fans’ health is the most important thing
  • Coronavirus symptoms: what are they and should you see a doctor?

Coach Wayne Bennett said ‘the show doesn’t have to go on’ and the NRL season should be cancelled amid coronavirus fears.

He said it is only a matter of time before a player contracts the deadly coronavirus.

‘Look … the show doesn’t have to go on,’ Bennett told The Daily Telegraph.

‘I would be suspending the season indefinitely … and you would have to assume we don’t play again this year.’

Bennett said players, coaches and fans’ health is the most important thing – football is not.

‘It’s only a matter of time before a player gets coronavirus. It’s on the cards. We are all part of the community, we aren’t quarantined from society,’ he said.

The coach added he understands there are arrangements with sponsors and broadcasters but to continue would be a ‘mickey mouse’ competition.

He said it would be better to suspend the season than have a band-aid solution.

More to come.
