Buswell was best known for playing the love interest of Deidre Barlow.

He married her before abandoning her with a young baby, moving himself to Amsterdam.

He was written out of the soap in 1978 and his character was diagnosed with cancer when Deidre married Ken Barlow.

After the soap he moved to the US where he worked as a croupier and is not thought to have returned to the UK often.

But in 2005 he made another appearance on the cobbles, this time for a six-week run.

A decade after he left the show he was caught up in a child sex probe and was accused of sexually assaulted a teenage girl in his dressing room in the 1960s.

At the time Lancashire police requested he return to the UK to be interviewed, but he refused.
