Couple are charged with murder of 6-year-old boy taken to the hospital covered in brutal abuse marks

A man and woman have been arrested and charged with the death of a six-year-old boy who was beaten to death.

Bobbie Bishop and Walter Wynhoff, 40 and 44 respectively, face felony charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, two counts of second-degree manslaughter and one count of malicious punishment, CBS Minnesota reported.

Bishop apparently carried the unresponsive boy, who was not breathing, to a hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on Monday.

Immediately hospital staff attempted to resuscitate the boy, but he was eventually declared dead, the criminal complaint said.

The boy’s appearance when he was brought to the hospital was said to be ‘disturbing,’ according to a detective who responded to the case.

He had infected wounds and multiple signs of trauma consistent with different types of injuries that had been inflicted upon him, including strap marks, suggesting he had been beaten, CBS reported.

Bishop and Wynhoff apparently admitted to failing to bring the boy to the hospital and to disciplining him with spankings, belts and to restraining him with duct tape, the criminal complaint says.

These brutal forms of discipline apparently escalated for a month leading up to the boy’s death.

The child and his sibling were living with Bishop and Wynhoff, according to the complaint.

Their legal guardian is said to live in Montana.

They were living with the couple for less than a year and were not rolled in school.

If they are convicted Bishop and Wynhoff each face up to 40 years in prison on just the murder charge, and an additional 15 years on the charges of first-degree murder.
