One couple wanted to channel their inner superstars by showing off the iconic lift from Dirty Dancing.

But the triumphant finish they wanted to copy from the 1987 hit film didn’t quite pan out.

As the romantic song The Time of My Life plays in the background, a man and woman at a wedding in Pennsylvania wreak havoc.

A party-goer filmed the moment a woman runs at her partner and leaps into his arms, and at first all seems well.

He couldn't lift her above his head

One couple tried and failed to complete the iconic lift from the 1987 hit film Dirty Dancing

However, he is unable to lift her above his head like dreamboat Patrick Swayze does in the movie.

Instead, the pair stumble backwards into a table and go crashing down, causing total chaos.

As people rush to their assistance, the woman filming laughs into the camera. Even if they didn’t mean to, they stole the show from the bride and groom.

Dirty Dancing stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey as Johnny Castle and Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman.

Baby is spending the summer at a hotel in the Catskills with her family when she meets Johnny. Baby volunteers herself as Johnny’s dance partner after his current one becomes pregnant.

Much of the movie is spent trying and failing to teach Baby the lift, with the pair nailing it at the end-of-season talent show.
