Couple gifts son teachers bottles of wine with his picture

A group of Ohio teachers got an appropriate gift for the holiday season when parents sent them wine bottles with a picture of their son.

Mary Sommers of Beavercreek, Ohio, felt that the teachers at Ascension School in Kettering deserved something rather special for educating her son, Jake.

‘How many coffee mugs does a teacher need,’ she said to the Dayton Daily News.

‘But who doesn’t need a glass of wine after teaching a kid like mine?’

The Sommers’s oldest son Daniel Joseph, a sophomore at Ohio State University, posted a picture of the bottles on his Twitter page, which quickly gained the attention of thousands.

‘My parents always get our elementary school teachers a present around Christmas. Typically something small like a candle or flower to say thank you,’ he said in the post that has been liked more than 45,000 times and has almost 8,000 retweets.

‘This year they got them bottles of wine & replaced the labels with their own with my brother on them… Happy holidays.’

And while Mary added that Jake was ‘that kid,’ she did advocate that the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree.

‘My four older siblings were good kids and it was hard to live up to that, so I didn’t try,’ the mother-of-three said.

‘(Jake) always has something to say. He’s that kid.’

Jake, an eighth grader, is completing his last year at Ascension, a school his sister Sarah also attended.

‘It is a farewell from my family,’ Daniel Joseph added.

Jake felt the gift was appropriate, as well.

He said: ‘I guess my teachers deserve it (the wine).’
