Couple left boy inside empty trailer alone for months

  • Police say 34-year-old Jennifer Nichols and 32-year-old Joshua Sanders were arrested Nov. 30
  • Nichols and Sanders remained jailed Monday in lieu of of a $250,000 and $150,000 bond, respectively
  • Both have been charged with one count of neglecting a child causing great bodily harm

Authorities say a Florida couple left a boy alone in a trailer for about two months.

The Pensacola News Journal reports that 34-year-old Jennifer Nichols and 32-year-old Joshua Sanders were arrested Nov. 30.

Both have been charged with one count of neglecting a child causing great bodily harm.

Officials didn’t say how old the boy was or how he was related to Nichols or Sanders.

A woman told Escambia County deputies she began renting the trailer in the 4800 block of Sierra Drive to the couple at the beginning of September.  

She eventually realized that the child was living there alone, though the couple would occasionally bring him food and money. 

The woman told investigators when she contacted the couple, Sanders told her it was not her problem as long as he paid the rent.

The juvenile told authorities that he hadn’t attended school for months. 

The Florida Department of Children and Families told the New Journal that they were involved in several cases concerning the boy.

The adolescent, however, said he didn’t know who the caseworkers were.

Nichols and Sanders remained jailed Monday in lieu of of a $250,000 and $150,000 bond, respectively.  Jail records didn’t list an attorney.
