Coventry baby dies after suffering cardiac arrest at home

A seventeen-month-old girl has died after going into cardiac arrest at home, in what police believe is a ‘tragic accident’.

Emergency services rushed to Henley Green in Coventry, on Friday afternoon launching a police investigation.

The toddler, who has not been named, had gone into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

Speaking to the MailOnline, West Midlands Police said early indications suggest the death is not suspicious and therefore it will be referred to the coroner.

Neighbours living by the block of flats where the child is believed to have lived reacted with shock to the news.

One elderly woman, who did not want to be named, said: ‘Its absolutely heartbreaking and your prayers go out to the family involved.

‘I saw people crowding around outside crying, they looked inconsolable and neighbours were coming out to comfort them and bring them glasses of water and just do anything they could to help.

‘I don’t know the family involved but it is an absolute tragic set of events which has really rocked people around here.’

Another resident Tim Stokes, 44, added: ‘Its really sad, I can’t believe a poor little baby has died. I saw the police but didn’t think anything of it.. Its just so shocking, how do you cope with losing your baby?’

Last night, a West Midlands Police spokesman said: ‘Police were made aware of a one-year-old child going into cardiac arrest in Coventry just before 1.30pm on April 20.

‘Sadly, the child could not be saved by the attending paramedics.

Residents today reacted with shock to the sad news on social media.
