Tasmania records its highest ever Covid case count – with new infections nearly doubling overnight to 702

Tasmania has reported 702 new Covid-19 cases, marking another record day for fresh infections. 

It comes after the discovery of cases on a cruise ship docked at Hobart and infections linked to a Launceston music festival.

Active infections on the island state have now risen to 2244 cases.

Tasmania’s previous daily case high of 466 was reported on Monday.

Seventy-one cases are being cared for at community case management facilities and 275 are being managed at home.

There are three people in hospital, one being treated specifically for Covid-19 and two positive patients for other conditions.
