Tones and I divides fans as she slams Sydney’s lockdown and accuses the government of putting people ‘in a position of huge pain and suffering’

Tones and I divided fans with her latest Instagram post about Sydney’s Covid-19 lockdown on Monday.

The 27-year-old, whose real name is Toni Watson, criticised the NSW government for putting people ‘into a position of huge pain and suffering’ as the state continues to battle the highly contagious Delta variant.

The singer also claimed Australia is ‘f**ked right now’ and said ‘there has not been enough conversation around mental health and suicide’.

Sparked debate: Tones and I (pictured) divided fans by slamming Sydney’s Covid lockdown and accusing the government of putting people ‘in a position of huge pain and suffering’

‘The government is putting the majority of the country into a position of huge pain and suffering,’ Tones wrote.

‘Everyone is losing everything, small businesses have gone under, people are locked away from friends and family, waking on the beach is becoming voodoo. And for what? When? No seriously! What’s the plan?

‘You have created a situation where people are staying in doors but it’s gone on for so long that we have forgotten what ‘life’ we are even fighting for.’

Tones also said it was ‘so hard to watch so many people suffering and it’s getting to a point where nobody can see a way out’.

She then offered assistance to small business owners affected by the lockdown.

‘Im going to try and help out 10 small businesses. With promotion / $5,000 cash and just some f**king hope!’ she said.

While some fans praised Tones, others criticised her for sharing an ‘uneducated post’ that failed to acknowledge why lockdowns are important.

‘Well done… My husband and I have a small business and it has been extremely difficult thank you for the support,’ one supporter commented.

‘Thank you for speaking up for small business,’ another wrote, while a third agreed: ‘You’re a f**king legend, well said and we need more of this.’

Meanwhile, The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield shared a video to Instagram criticising the musician’s post.

‘It’s just incorrect, the reason we haven’t had as many Covid deaths is because of lockdowns. Disappointing. I just wish people would stop saying suicide rates are higher than Covid deaths because it simply isn’t true,’ she said.

Another critic wrote: ‘This post is inflammatory, uneducated and could do serious damage. Push people towards fringe movements that will only continue to hold us in lockdown. Why don’t you ask your platform to get vaccinated? Or make sure they stay at home?’

‘What’s your solution?’ another person asked.
