Covid Melbourne: Kylie Brown diagnosed with virus as Nova cluster grows

The Covid-19 cluster that emerged out of Nova FM’s studios in Melbourne has grown, with WAG Kylie Brown testing positive on Monday after becoming unwell.

She is believed to have caught the virus from her husband, former AFL player Jonathan Brown, who co-hosts Nova 100 breakfast show Chrissie, Sam and Browny.

The couple’s children Olivia, 12, and Jack, eight, also have Covid, but their youngest, seven-year-old Macy Rose, is still testing negative.

Kylie, who is close friends with Bec Judd, shared the news on Instagram on Thursday.

‘Unfortunately Olivia and I tested positive for the spicy flu on Monday the 22nd after we were having a good chat on Insta,’ she wrote.

‘Olivia has been dizzy, nauseous and had a backache for two days but is now all better. Just a blocked nose.

‘Macy, the little weapon, is still negative and her quarantine period ends tomorrow [Friday] but I will keep her at home until Monday and do a few rapid tests just to be extra cautious.’

Kylie said she’d been ‘hit the hardest in our family’ but had managed to get some fresh air in the garden earlier in the week, which made her feel better.

She added: ‘Right now I am just sleeping, hydrating and keeping up with checks and talking to the [healthcare] team each day.

‘Sitting out in the sun was really nice yesterday [Wednesday]. I’m hoping to get out there again soon.’

The beauty therapist said she was ‘extremely grateful to be vaccinated’ because her symptoms would almost certainly have been far worse if she wasn’t double-jabbed.

Getting vaccinated against Covid-19 significantly reduces your chances of becoming seriously ill with the virus or requiring hospitalisation.

Kylie continued: ‘This is a scary virus and there are so many different symptoms and severity. Today has been a rough day but hopefully I will turn the corner tomorrow.’

Jonathan also addressed his wife and daughter getting Covid on Browny’s Podcast on Wednesday, saying: ‘The problem is I’ve brought poor old Kyles down, as well.

‘Think she’s now suffering. For a while there it was just me and little Jack Brown, my eight year-old son, that had it.

‘The three girls, it hadn’t rocked their world yet but now Olivia and Kylie have gone down.

‘Little Macy, can you believe it, the youngest of the family, the seven year-old, the little wonder woman, she has one more negative test and she’s free as a bird, she’s back to school with her mates.’

Jonathan said he’d gone to a friend’s 40th birthday prior to feeling unwell last week and was now concerned about having spread the virus.

The other presenter, comedian Sam Pang, seems to have received the all clear.

Kylie had confirmed earlier in the week the family was still living under the same roof despite her husband and son testing positive on Saturday.

‘[We try to] stay hydrated, confident and calm for the kids because there’s a lot of hype and fear that has been placed into our kids,’ she said on Instagram Stories.

‘Jack was freaking out when it happened, but we have reassured him and I think that’s what is important is to reassure the children.’

Kylie said of her son’s symptoms: ‘Jack had a mild fever yesterday for maybe an hour and he had, like, growing pains and that’s all he’s had.’

She also spoke about her decision not to isolate away from Jonathan and Jack during their recovery.

‘When it comes to our living arrangements, we are not isolated from the ‘rony boys. The kids are all sleeping in the same bed together, and I’m not sleeping in the bed with JB ’cause he has been sweating it out and he’s a bit smelly,’ she said.

‘We’re just sharing everything and going on [with] life as normal and trying to keep as calm as possible,’ she added.

Jonathan tested positive for Covid after he began feeling ill during a round of golf with his radio co-host Sam Pang last Thursday.

The 40-year-old confirmed he had been diagnosed with the respiratory virus on his Nova 100 breakfast show Chrissie, Sam & Browny on Monday morning.

‘I’m going to lift the curtain here. On Thursday afternoon, I said to Sam [Pang], I was playing golf with him and I leant on him and said, “I think this is the end.”

‘Pang will be my witness. I said to him in the car park Thursday night, I said, “I’m feeling a bit crook, I’m not right.”

‘I went home and I mentioned to my wife, Kylie, because I was due to go out for dinner that night.

‘I said, “I don’t think I’m going to be able to go for dinner,” and she said, “Why don’t you have a rapid test?” because she had been a little bit crook for a couple of days.

‘Then it came up positive and I rang Pangy and rang our work, Nova, and said I came up positive pretty quick. I think we probably need to put something in place where everyone get tested. So I did the right thing.’

Both Nova and stablemate Smooth FM were shut down for deep cleaning after the Melbourne station’s program director Peter Clay told the on-air talent to get tested on Thursday night.

A network spokesperson said: ‘We take the health, safety and privacy of all our staff very seriously.

‘We will continue to abide by and follow all current state government health advice and directions to maintain a safe workplace for all our employees.’

Jonathan was last seen publicly with Kylie and a slew of famous faces at the opening of Bar Bambi on November 11.

Among those who attended were Bec Judd and her husband, Chris; Tayla Damir and her fiancé, Nathan Broad; and Andy Lee and his girlfriend, Rebecca Harding.

Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting they contracted the virus at the event.
