Covid US: DoorDash set to deliver at-home test kits in 12 DashMart locations

DoorDash is set to deliver at-home COVID-19 test kits across US following partnerships with Vault Health and Everlywell

  • DoorDash is working with Vault Health and Everlywell delivery COVID tests
  • The food delivery app will offer two at-home tests for users to choose from
  • Users can choose Everywell’s nasal swab test or Vault’s saliva kit

DoorDash is adding on-demand coronavirus test kits to its long list of delivery items.

Users across the US can place orders for COVID-19 at home tests that will be brought directly to their door – with some available with same-day delivery.

DoorDash announced the addition as a result of partnerships with Vault Health and Everylywell, which both rolled out at-home tests last year.

Customers can choose from the Vault Health Saliva Test Kit or the Everlywell DTC test – both received emergency approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Both kits will be available in 12 DashMart locations. including Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis and Phoenix, with more cities rolling out in the coming months.

The Everlywell testing kit for $109 requires users to self-administer a nasal swab, while Vault Health is charging $119 for its test that needs a saliva sample.

Everlywell can be done without supervision, but the other needs to be completed while zooming with a Vault Health staff member.

Both firms promise customers results within 24 to 48 hours and the tests ‘may be eligible for reimbursement with healthcare insurance.’

Dr. Marisa Cruz, Head of Clinical Affairs at Everlywell and former Senior Medical Advisor for Digital Health at the FDA, said: ‘As many as 30 percent of people skip doctor’s appointments because they don’t have a reliable way of getting there.’

‘The fact that you can now get a kit delivered to your door in hours, quickly collect a sample and drop your kit in the mail, and then receive an accurate COVID-19 diagnosis and speak to a physician about next steps in as little as 24 hours later is a significant step forward for public health.’

Everlywell announced the completion of its at-home COVID-19 test in March 2020.

Each kit comes with swabs so samples can be taken from the nose and throat, as well as instructions on how to seal the sample and return it.

Users collect the samples themselves and send them in a pre-paid overnight package to an FDA-approved lab with results available within 48 hours.

Everlywell says results will be sent to consumers via text and email.

Vault Health released the first at-home saliva test a few months later in May of last year, which allows people to collect their own samples at home can help minimize their potential exposure to the virus, as well as the exposure of health care workers to it.

Jason Feldman, Vault Founder and CEO, said: ‘Vault makes diagnostic testing easy, comfortable, and very fast across the US.

‘Our partnership with DoorDash unlocks same-day access to our easy to collect saliva COVID test, allowing a patient to spit into a tube and receive their results in 24 hours to get them back to travel, work, school and family time.’
