Cowboy firms could be banned from doling out £100 fines

A private parking firm slapped a couple with £10,000 worth of fines for parking below their luxury apartment in their designated space.

Alyssha Harriot and Konrad Koscinsci moved into the gated community nearly two years ago but have since racked up more than 100 parking tickets.

Alyssha, 26, has already won two court cases and managed to clear a £1,500 debt but faces a legal battle to overturn every fine individually.

The award-winning development 270-flat ‘Lakeshore’ in Hartcliffe, south Bristol, was built on the former Imperial Tobacco site five years ago.

Residents can opt to pay Urban Splash £50 a month to rent a parking space, or face the prospect of being ticketed if they do not display a valid permit.

However, Alyssha says her tenancy agreement contains a clause granting permission to park on Level B of the three-storey car park.

Alyssha still has over 100 tickets to contest in civil court.
