All the pre-fight hype, slander and conspiracies have provided a steely-eyed Terence Crawford with even more reason to silence Jeff Horn’s camp and take his world title belt.
And his boisterous trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre has predicted such a dominant performance from the American pound-for-pound sensation that Horn’s corner will have no choice but to throw in the towel.
Crawford, who unified the junior welterweight division last year, is seeking a world title in his third weight class in Sunday morning’s (AEST) clash with Horn in Las Vegas.
The 30-year-old favourite looked sharp, strong and focused in his brief workout on the MGM Grand casino floor on Wednesday (US time), which was open to the public.
“This whole fight got me motivated,” said Crawford, who has a 32-0 record with 23 knockouts.
“They’ve been talking a lot and everybody know how I respond when a lot of people run their mouth.”
Crawford was called a “princess” by Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton when he questioned the legitimacy of the right hand injury he reportedly suffered, which saw the WBO welterweight championship bout delayed from the original April date.
But Crawford said Horn (18-0-1) need only ask fellow Queensland product Clay Waterman, a world amateur champion who sparred with Crawford in Colorado Springs earlier this year, to find out how real it was.
“I was sparring one of his guys from Australia and he can vouch for whatever injury that he thinks is fake,” he said.
“It’s healed up pretty good.
“I’m going to show them a princess come Saturday.”
Crawford said he felt confident, but not “overly” so, acknowledging Horn was a tough, rugged boxer with an insatiable desire and an uncanny ability to climb back from the edge of defeat.
Asked what Horn’s biggest danger was, Crawford said: “Headbutts, elbows. But it’s a fight.”
“You’ve got to take your hat off to a guy who’s willing to do everything to win.
“I feel as if he’s going to come out there from round one to round 12, if it lasts that long, guns blazing.”
McIntyre, who has largely done all of Crawford’s talking for him in the build-up to the fight, said Horn was in for a torrid night.
“I think Glenn is going to throw the towel in,” he said.
“I saw him at Walmart today picking out towels. I know what he was doing that for.”
