Crime doesn’t toupee: Useless smuggler is caught trying to hide half a kilo of cocaine worth £27,000 under his WIG in Barcelona
- He looked nervous and had wore a strangely elevated wig in Barcelona airport
- Police noticed the smuggler after he arrived from Bogota, Colombia, on Tuesday
- Underneath his precarious brunette hairpiece they found £27,000 of cocaine
A Colombian smuggler was caught trying to conceal half a kilo of cocaine beneath his wig at Barcelona airport today.
Spanish police were drawn to the man who had a precarious toupee on the top of his head and looked nervous as he got off a flight from Bogota.
Underneath the brunette hairpiece they discovered £27,000 (30,000 euros) of cocaine.
Photos showed how the large quantity of illicit powder had kept his toupee propped up conspicuously.
The middle-aged man appears in photos released by the police to still be wearing the brunette toupee, which sits precariously on the top of his head
The police took another image of the man without the hairpiece, to reveal a black plastic bag full of half a kilo of cocaine
‘There is no limit to the inventiveness of drug traffickers trying to mock controls,’ said the police statement.
The statement enclosed a photo of a middle-aged man – still wearing the toupee though with his eyes blocked in the image – but gave no more details of his identity.
Over 100 kilos of cocaine were seized by Spanish police at the Barcelona-El Prat airport in 2018.
The Colombian was detained at the end of June.
