Cristiano Ronaldo receives criticism after posing for a picture with Jordan Peterson

Fans have hit out at Cristiano Ronaldo after the Manchester United forward posted a photo of himself alongside right-wing psychologist Jordan Peterson on Instagram.

Peterson has become a divisive figure in recent years due to his controversial views on transgender people, Covid-19 vaccinations and masculinity.

Back in 2017, Peterson was suspended from Twitter after deadnaming and misgendering the actor Elliot Page.

He tweeted: ‘Remember when Pride was a sin? And [Elliot Page] just had [his] breasts removed by a criminal physician.’

Peterson received backlash for his comments on Page, who came out as transgender three years later.

Peterson also caused a stir last year when he claimed ‘you’d have to kill me first’ to get him to receive a Covid-19 vaccination booster.

The psychologist has confirmed that he has been vaccinated against Covid-19, but he made this remark after Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau called for people to get themselves boosted as infection rates increased in the country last December.

During his rise to fame, Peterson has described himself as a ‘professor against political correctness’, and he has been particularly outspoken about masculinity.

The 60-year-old has previously stated that the ‘masculine spirit is under assault’ and has claimed that ‘the idea that women were oppressed throughout history is an appalling theory.’

These views do not appear to have bothered Ronaldo, though, as the Portuguese footballer posed for a photo with Peterson on Saturday.

With his arm around Peterson’s shoulder, Ronaldo captioned the photo: ‘Nice to see you my friend! #seeyousoon

A number of supporters have been disappointed by Ronaldo’s decision to take a picture with Peterson.

‘Really tarnishing his legacy here,’ one supporter wrote on Twitter.

Another fan has claimed they have ‘gone off Ronaldo’ after his photo with Peterson

One supporter has described the picture of Ronaldo alongside Peterson as ‘grim’

‘Oh wow, gone off Ronaldo now,’ another added.

‘Grim. Get him gone,’ another fan wrote.

It has also been pointed out that this photo could now lead to Peterson gaining even more attention, while one fan lashed out at Ronaldo for being ‘entitled’.

‘Imagine how many impressionable young men are spending tonight watching Jordan Peterson videos now,’ one supporter wrote.

‘Why is anyone even slightly surprised that someone as entitled as him thinks Peterson is great?’ another fan asked.
