‘Croc wrangler’ PATS a huge saltwater crocodile before teasing it with his baseball cap

Hats off to this man: ‘Croc wrangler’ takes his life in his hands as he PATS a huge saltwater crocodile before teasing it with his baseball cap

  • Wright tempts the croc named Otis out of the water by waving his cap around
  • Otis jumps out of the water several times in failed attempts to grab Wright’s cap

A ‘croc wrangler’ has been captured in a terrifyingly close encounter with a monster crocodile in the Northern Territory.

Matt Wright teased the three-metre-long salt water crocodile by waving his cap in the air – before the reptile to jumped up out of the water to grab it.

The crocodile, named Otis, emerged with nearly half his body out of the water several times throughout the video, in a failed bid to grab hold of Wright’s cap with his killer jaws.

‘Australian salt water crocs, are they the biggest crocs in the world. This fella sure is big,’ Wright wrote under his video.

An American man can be heard in the background of the video saying it’s the biggest crocodile he has ever seen.

‘Don’t ever, ever, ever try this,’ he warns, while Wright leans over and pats the crocodile’s neck from the safety of his boat.

‘I’m here with the absolute croc wrangler. Monster croc wrangler, Matt Wright,’ the American tourist continues.

‘And look at this! Look at this! Look at this! Is this unbelievable or what?

‘He’s an absolute croc whisper, to say the least.’

Despite getting close, Otis was unable to grab Wright's cap with his deadly jaws

Wednesday’s encounter isn’t the first time Wright has put his life on the line to interact up close with the deadly reptile.

Last month Wright posted a video of him sitting in the shallow water of a creek, just centimetres away from ‘Bone Cruncher,’ another giant crocodile.

Wright and the 30-year-old croc have been ‘building up a relationship’ with each other for seven years.

‘Every day of the week I can jump in a swim with him and its not a drama,’ he told NT News.

‘He’s cool I enjoy it and he enjoys the company.’

But Wright has staunchly discouraged people from getting as close to crocodiles if they come across one.

‘The relationship that has been built is one in a million and swimming with deadly wildlife is not something I advocate for. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you’re get eaten,’ he said.
