Shocking video footage shows how a crowded roof parapet collapsed during a religious procession in India, leaving 20 people injured. 

Worshippers gathered in B Thandrapadu village in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on September 9 to observe Muharram, a popular Muslim festival. 

Villagers had dug a pit and filled it with hot embers as part of a fire walking ritual – and dozens of spectators had climbed the roofs of nearby houses to watch the ceremony with a good view.

Debris and many of those gathered near the parapet fell on the crowd below, causing horror among revellers at the religious ceremony. 

The injured were rushed to Kurnool Government General Hospital for treatment.

Out of the 20 injured, five have sustained head and bone fractures. 

Police have registered a case and are probing the incident.
