Many of the Princess’s beauty secrets are kept under royal lock and key, but some of Mary’s favourite products and methods have surfaced over the years.

When it comes to skincare, Princess Mary has long been a fan of the Danish-born skin expert Ole Henriksen.

Ole first met Princess Mary during her first pregnancy with son Prince Christian, when she called on him for skincare advice.

He said the eyes are the most important area of the face and require ‘special attention’ as part of the wider skincare regimen.

‘Try to use creams proven to hydrate and firm to enhance your skin’s elasticity, and always make this the last step of your routine,’ Ole told FEMAIL.

‘Nothing does it better than our Banana Bright Eye Creme ($54), which serves to illuminate and strengthen natural collagen with its added vitamin C – it’s makeup and eye care in one jar!’

The Princess also stays looking youthful by way of a rigorous fitness regime that keeps her in great shape at age 48 - this includes plenty of walking (pictured with her family) and running

What is the Danish diet?

* People living in Denmark tend to eat more fish, and especially oily fish like salmon.

* They also eat less meat than a typical Western diet and the emphasis is on high quality, lean meats.

* The diet includes fruit and encourages snacking on berries and nuts.

* It also includes plenty of root vegetables, such as carrots, potatoes and parsnips.

* When bread is eaten, it’s normally of the Rye variety – which is really high in fibre.

Princess Mary also swears by a healthy ‘Danish diet’ – filled with plenty of ingredients native to Denmark, including olive oil and salmon – which both boast skin-boosting ingredients.

A typical ‘Danish diet’ includes plenty of fish, as well as fruit, root vegetables including carrots, parsnip and potatoes and fibrous foods like rye bread.

Someone on the diet might breakfast on rolled oats with plain Skyr yoghurt and berries, before snacking on an apple or pear with almond butter and herbal tea mid morning.

Lunch might be Smørrebrød – or a typical open-faced sandwich made on rye bread.

An afternoon snack could be either a handful of nuts or carrot, before a dinner of 100 grams of lean grilled wild meat such as venison, elk or kangaroo.
