Crown Princess Mary of Denmark joins husband Prince Frederik for Queen Margrethe’s annual hunt

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark opted for a country chic look as she joined husband Prince Frederik for Queen Margrethe’s annual hunt.

The royal, 46, opted for a checked midi skirt and black knee-high boots as she attended the traditional Kongejagt – or King’s Hunt – event at Fredensborg Palace, northern Denmark.

Mary finished off her look with a forest green coat and burgundy roll-neck jumper, along with a pair of matching leather gloves.

Meanwhile, Frederik, 50, dressed down in a brown jumper and burgundy gillet, along with a pair of grey trainers for the occasion.

The slain deer were laid out on the lawn in front of the Palace, for the Danish royals and their guests to inspect.

Mary and Frederik were later seen mingling with guests at the event, along with Margrethe, 79.

The couple have attended the annual hunt in previous years, including with their twins, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, who were five at the time.

The decision to take their children to the hunt, which involve inspecting slain deer, was criticised at the time by animal rights activists.

Mary and Frederik’s appearance at this year’s hunt comes after they met the Pope at the Vatican last week.

The couple were visiting Rome in a bid to strengthen ties between Denmark and Italy.

Meanwhile, the pair are likely to have a busy week ahead, as they will attend a banquet at Buckingham Palace to mark Prince Charles’ 70th birthday on Wednesday.

Queen Sonja and King Harald of Norway are also expected to travel the UK for the glitzy dinner.
