  • Both the drivers were injured and one was taken to hospital following the crash
  • Home CCTV captured the scene outside the house of Stacey and Chris Kidman

Shocking footage captured on a home CCTV system shows the frightening moment a van spins across the road after a smash on a residential street.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash which happened in Birchington in Kent outside the home of Stacey, 34, and Chris Kidman, 41.

The footage shows a silver van waiting to pull out from a junction before it is hit almost immediately by an oncoming black car after it turns onto the road.

The vehicle travelling at speed smashes into the van sending it flying across both lanes, spraying parts of the two vehicles and their contents across the road.

Both of the drivers were injured and one was taken to hospital following the incident.

Both vehicles then come to a stop on opposite sides of the road and seconds later a postman runs over to assist the driver of the silver van.

Chris posted the dramatic footage on Facebook saying: ‘So this happened outside my house’, with users commenting on how scary it was.

One user said: ‘Too close for comfort. Hope everyone was okay.’

Mrs Kidman, who lives on Canterbury Road and whose camera recorded the incident, says she heard a huge crash that sounded like glass and metal crunching.

She rang the emergency services and a police car that happened to be passing stopped at the scene shortly after the incident.

Mrs Kidman, who is six and a half months pregnant, heard the crash from where she was sat in her front room.

By the time Mrs Kidman left her house, her neighbour and the postman were already helping the person in the silver van.

Mrs Kidman said that crashes are rare on the street due to the islands in the middle of the road slowing drivers down.

She said: ‘I wasn’t expecting to see two cars when I looked out of the window.’

She added that after the crash the driver of the silver van was talking but he had a nasty cut on his head.

She said: ‘They didn’t want to move him as you never really know what injuries there are.

‘The other driver was very shocked. It looked like he had hurt his knee.’

A police spokesman said officers attended the two-vehicle collision.

‘Officers attended the scene along with the South East Coast Ambulance Service where both drivers suffered injuries,’ she said.

‘One person was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

‘The road was closed to assist the emergency services and recover the vehicles. It was reopened at around 2pm.’

Today Kent Police said that no arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
