They say dogs are man’s best friend and that appears to be true even for police dogs after a cop was filmed joyously playing with a sniffer K9 outside an Australian airport.

In a video uploaded to TikTok by Sarah Jeanette, the officer playfully swings his police dog around with a toy in its mouth as the canine profusely wags its tail.

The heartwarming clip was captured outside Cairns Airport in north Queensland, where the sniffer unit dogs are regulars as they are trained on-site.

The airport has a purpose-built dog training centre, home to the Australian Federal Police dog team which performs bomb appraisals and drug screening.

The K9 kennel facility has been at the airport for a decade and includes a veterinary consult room, kennels, and a large exercise and training yard.

A video has emerged online showing a police officer playfully swinging his K9 sniffer dog around with a toy in its mouth, with his canine friend loving every bit of it, profusely wagging its tail

Commenters on the video said they often see the police dogs playing with their handlers and being treated like kings at the airport.

‘I have to say after working at Cairns Airport these dogs get treated to this every day and it’s such a beautiful moment to see them so happy,’ one user commented.

‘I’ve seen this good boy inspecting bags at Cairns Airport, he is such a good dog and keeps our city safe,’ wrote a second.

‘Just two good boys having fun,’ a third said.

Many commenters named the dog in the video as Lido, a six-year-old canine who was selected for the role when he was just a one-year-old pup.

Lido is one of more than 40 AFP dogs Australia-wide tasked with sniffing out contraband.
