Cyclist flips over his handlebars Coronation Drive

The feud between motorists and cyclists is raging on after shocking footage of a collision in Queensland was released this week.

A dashboard camera recorded a driver named John trying to pull out of a driveway and onto Coronation Drive in Brisbane last year.

As John inches toward the exit, a male cyclist appears to slam into the car on the left side before toppling over the handles of his bike.

The irate cyclist is then seen slamming his hands on the front of the car while swearing at the motorist.

After John gets out of the car the men continue to argue before the camera cuts them off.

The video, which was posted to Dash Cam Owners Australia on Wednesday, divided viewers, with many claiming the accident was the cyclists fault.

‘So what’s the car meant to do…. sit there all day in case a cyclist comes down the hill and never get out of the driveway? It’s pretty obvious it’s a very busy road and you would never get out if you sat back and didn’t block the path. It’s also pretty obvious the motorist took his time in case a cyclist was coming down the hill and did as much as he could to give way. A bit of common sense goes a bloody long way,’ one man wrote on Facebook.

‘Coronation drive is an extremely busy road and trying to get out of any of those driveways is a nightmare. The car driver would not have been able to see oncoming traffic (coming in his right) if he had stopped before the bike lane. However, he approached it slowly and the cyclist would’ve definitely been able to see him. Some common sense on behalf of the cyclist would apply here,’ a woman agreed.

‘F***ing hell! How much more warning did the cyclist need?! Car was there for ages,’ another viewer wrote.

‘Assuming that’s a bike/shared path – the driver must yield when crossing it. He failed to do that. This is not complicated – driver at fault,’ the organization wrote online.

‘Why are Aussie drivers so clueless? Seriously people learn the rules. Aren’t you the ones who supposedly know them with your car licence and all? I guess if you just say you do, that’s enough?’ the group continued.
