‘Dad’ sneakers are trending with social media stars and high-end brands

While many cringe-worthy trends come and (fortunately) go, some have a way of creeping their way back into fashion (hello neon, fanny packs and scrunchies).

This season, ‘dad’ trainers have surprisingly returned and they’re taking no prisoners. High-end designer labels like Chanel, Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton have all incorporated the chunky ‘ugly’ sneaker into their collections and are charging over $800 for them.

If that weren’t convincing enough, top influencers like Elsa Hosk, Josephine H.J. and Eva Chen have all embraced them. FEMAIL breaks down how the stars are wearing them, plus ways you can incorporate them into your own wardrobe.

Surprising trend: This season, ‘dad’ trainers (as seen on Elsa Hosk) have surprisingly returned and they’re taking no prisoners

Victoria’s Secret model Elsa Hosk (@hoskelsa) is no stranger to dressing sexy.

The 29-year-old Swedish beauty recently visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York wearing a slinky fuchsia slip dress by Dannijo.

Unexpectedly, Elsa accessorized the alluring garment with Balenciaga clunky white ‘dad’ sneakers ($895) that scream comfort over chic.

Not afraid to take fashion risks, Instagram star and H.J. Muse owner, Josphine H.J.. (@josephinehj) has been rocking oversized sneaks that resemble orthopedic shoes for quite some time.

While many would use them to complete causal ensembles, Josephine has been pairing them with atleisure gear, formal dresses and everything in between.

To rock the trainers like Josephine, forget their bulky silhouette and treat them like you would any other shoe.

To pull off the bold trend, ease into it by opting for versatile all white trainers.

Keeping in mind that the shoe style looks like it came straight out of your father’s closet, pair them with fashions you feel good in.

Walk with confidence and offset the ‘ugliness’ with feminine silhouettes. Think: tea-length skirts, slip dresses and minis.

While social media stars are spending a lot of money on their designer trainers, you don’t have to. There are plenty of affordable options on the market. Plus, this trend won’t last for very much longer. Fingers crossed!
