Dad’s confetti surprise for his son’s birthday goes painfully wrong

A dad’s plan to fire a confetti cannon in celebration of his son’s birthday did not go to plan when it backfired and blasted him in the groin.

In the video, filmed in the US, a family gathers on their front yard as they sing Happy Birthday.

As the father returns home from work as a probation officer, he brandishes a confetti cannon which sends his two children into excitement. 

The birthday boy, who wears a red hat, watches his father in anticipation as he prepares to fire the confetti in celebration.

At the end of the song, the parent pulls on the string to shoot the cannon – but things go horribly wrong.

Making a loud blast, the cannon backfires and shoots straight into the father’s groin causing him to cry out in pain.

He doubles over clutching his pants, as the family burst out laughing at the hilarious scene.

The father can be seen hobbling inside as the birthday boy and his brother squeal with delight at the funny moment.

His wife, who filmed the incident, also finds the moment hilarious as she chortles behind the camera.

Social media users were quick to see the funny side, with some mistaking the probation worker for a cop and quipping that he looks like he has ‘never had to fire his service weapon’.

One wrote: ‘I assume he’s never had to fire his service weapon since he’s still alive.’

Another wrote: ‘Did that cop just shoot himself in his confetti maker?’.
