Daisy Ridley ‘wasn’t surprised’ at Star Wars fans who BASHED The Last Jedi

Daisy Ridley revealed in a new interview that she wasn’t surprised at the amount of Star Wars fans who hated the divisive 2017 film The Last Jedi.

The 27 year old actress, who was plucked from obscurity to play Rey in 2015’s The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, was promoting her film Ophelia in a new interview with USA Today.

When asked about the immense backlash against The Last Jedi, Ridley began, ‘It’s just a different thing.’

‘Everyone’s going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it’s fair,’ Ridley began, adding that she understood why fans were so mad, to a point.

‘If people hold something incredibly dear and think they know how it should be and it’s not like that, it’s fair for people to think they were done wrong. It doesn’t mean they were — ultimately, Rian [Johnson]’s a filmmaker and one person can’t dictate how a film is supposed to be — but freedom of expression, sure,’ Ridley added.

She also teased new details about the final film in her new Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which hits theaters in December.

‘Genre-wise, it’s different from the other two, which will become clear when the film comes out. It’s quite emotional. There’s a different drive than the previous two films, but there’s a lot of fun,’ she said.

Ridley’s character Rey was one of three new characters introduced in The Force Awakens, along with John Boyega’s Finn and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron.

While Rey was separated from Finn and Poe in The Last Jedi, she confirmed that she will be back with her friends in The Rise of Skywalker.

‘I really missed John [Boyega] during the last one, but we’re back together and now Oscar [Isaac] is part of it. To me, it felt like kids going on an adventure,’ she said.

There has also been a lot of speculation about her character Rey’s parents in The Force Awakens, but they were revealed in The Last Jedi to be ‘nobodies.’

Many fans still believe there is more to that story, with Ridley confirming fans will know the absolute truth about who Rey’s parents are.
