Dakota Johnson cheekily smirks in 19th-century clothes as she breaks character to sip a coffee

She’s been busy filming for a new Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion in Bath.

And Dakota Johnson, 31, flashed a smile on Wednesday as she enjoyed a modern-day takeaway coffee in her 19th-century costume while filming alongside Nikki Amuka-Bird, who will play widow Lady Russell and Henry Golding, who will play Mr. Elliot, Dakota’s onscreen cousin – and not a love interest.

The actress, 31, looked every inch the regency beauty as she shot scenes for the adaptation of the literary classic, which featured a diverse ‘colour-blind’ cast.

Dakota then beamed as she spotted a horse on set to play with and rushed over to give the pony a pat.

The actress stroked the horse with a big grin on her face as she took the time between takes to shower the animal with attention.

The large black stallion was in charge of pulling carriages through the set, which Dakota will no doubt ride in for many of her scenes.

In January Netflix’s vice-president of inclusion strategy revealed that Bridgerton’s racially diverse cast was the result of an ‘inclusion lens’ being applied to casting decisions.

Verna Myers said the company supported diverse lead producers and showrunners for the series as well as its executive producer Shonda Rhymes.

The Netflix adaptation of Persuasion joins a long line of productions that have attempted to tell the tale of Anne Elliott from the popular novel.

It is one of two rival versions of Persuasion in the works, with the other starring Sarah Snook, best known as Shiv Roy in Sky Atlantic’s hit drama Succession.

Austen’s last completed novel tells the story of a woman who defies society’s rules by remaining unmarried at 27, choosing to live with her near-bankrupt family instead of tying the knot because she still holds a torch for Capt Wentworth.

It was last adapted for ITV in 2007 with Sally Hawkins taking the role of Anne.
