Dakota Johnson grins as Drew Barrymore praises her Ellen DeGeneres lying video

Drew Barrymore has praised Dakota Johnson over the viral video of her calling out Ellen DeGeneres, for lying about not coming to the 50 Shades of Gray star’s birthday party.

The famous clip showed Dakota, 32, make Ellen, 63, uncomfortable as she accuses her of missing her birthday bash, when the talk show host had tried to make it seem like she wasn’t invited.

While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show Thursday, Dakota grinned with glee and the struggled not to laugh as Drew said the meme-worthy moment was ‘amazing.’

‘People have gotten in trouble for claiming not being invited to your parties,’ Drew told Dakota on her show, clearly referencing the clip.

‘That was amazing, by the way,’ Drew added, as she was met by cheers from the audience as Dakota laughed. Drew continued: ‘Like, amazing.’

‘Major props to @DrewBarrymore for bringing up the ‘Actually no that’s not the truth Ellen’ incident on her show today with Dakota Johnson,’ a fan tweeted.

Another reacted saying: ‘I almost spit out my coffee.’

In the original exchange, DeGeneres attempted to grill Johnson for not inviting her to her birthday party, only for the actress to firmly correct her.

Proving its popularity, in May this year Twitter users were quick to unearth the video again as they celebrated ‘Happy National Dakota Johnson Day’ with news that Ellen’s show will end in its 19th season in 2022.

It comes amid Ellen’s toxic workplace scandal, which has been largely blamed for the show ending, with talk-show host dubbed ‘the queen of mean’ after years of rumors about her behavior off set.

Two years ago when Ellen mentioned she wasn’t invited to Dakota’s 30th birthday, the 50 Shades actress replied: ‘Actually no. That’s not the truth, Ellen. You were invited.’

‘Last time I was on the show last year, you gave me a bunch of sh** about not inviting you, but I didn’t even know you wanted to be invited. I didn’t even know you liked me!’

‘You knew I liked you. You’ve been on the show many times,’ Ellen said before a back-and-forth with a crew member. ‘I was invited? Why didn’t I go? Oh yeah, I had a thing. It was probably in Malibu. That’s too far for me to go ― I think I do remember I was invited. But I really didn’t remember that until just now.’

After 19 seasons and more than 3,000 episodes, Ellen reportedly informed her staff in an email this May that she was done with her self-titled show.

‘When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged — and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,’ DeGeneres told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘She’s promised one more season after this one and will exit at the end of the 2021/2022 season – the 19th season of the show,’ a source told DailyMail.com. ‘The ratings have tanked and have been truly appalling this year and Ellen knows her time is up.’

The ratings for total households from February 2020 to February 2021 were down 40% in New York City and Chicago; in Los Angeles she’s lost 59% of viewers.

In Philly ratings in the same time period were down 32% and in San Francisco she lost 50% of viewers.

Since its season premiere in September, the show garnered an average of 1.5 million viewers by March – down 1.1 million from the same time-frame a year ago, which had 2.6 million average viewers.

In March 2020, Kevin T. Porter called out Ellen for being ‘notoriously one of the meanest people alive’ and started a Twitter thread for users to send in their stories, only for the thread to pick up steam.

Ellen addressed accusations from both current and former employees that she had fostered a toxic workplace, and apologized during an opening monologue on her show last season.

Kevin took to Twitter on Wednesday with an homage to Kamala Harris upon hearing the news that she and Joe Biden had been elected as the Vice President and President in November, ‘We did it, Dakota.’
